LESLEY-ANN WANLISS
Lesley-Ann Wanliss writes life, painting pictures with powerhouse lines. Dubbed a wordsmith for her play on words and intellectual poetic style, she is a graduate of the University of the West Indies with a major in Literatures in English. It is at the University that she nurtured her poetic style, shaping her skills as poet of the page and stage. She carved her hard hitting poetic style from the many lyrical workshops headed by prolific writers such as Nalo Hopkinson, Donna Heamas, Wayne Brown and other Caribbean writers pushing open local publishing doors and becoming a staple in the Observer Literary Arts Section, both as poet and as storyteller. In June 2004 the young poet voiced her way across weeks of poetry to become a finalist and top female poet in the Poetry Klash series hosted by Weekenz and was awarded the third place prize, missing the second place award by .5 points. After a six year sabbatical from the poetry stage, born from the death of her father, she has directed her creativity toward teaching English Language, Literature and the Performing Arts, working on various entertainment projects in the various posts of Event Co-ordinator, Production Manager, Production Assistant to Stage Manager and building her craft as a Theatre Director. She was privileged to stage the poetry of Olive Senior?s ?Shell? at the book?s launch at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (P.S.C.C.A) in 2008. Lesley-Ann Wanliss returned in 2010 to a vast listener-ship that expanded beyond the familiar poetry scene with her piece ?Bonfire? which was used as the introduction for the Radio Program Bonfire aired weekly on Bess FM from October to November 2010. UMOJA-OLU
Umoja-Olu (Alwyn Allen) ? Actor, Teacher, Monodramatist. An Arts Therapist, using popular theatre for personal and social growth development and advocacy. Earned a Drama in Education Diploma from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. The Founder, CEO and Artist Director for Umoja-Olu Productions that advocates in finding possible ways in Ending Violence Against Men and Boys. Have done amazing healing and life changing work through theatre for change in Baltimore working with kids and use Playback Theatre to address public issues in York, Pennsylvania. Umoja also teaches life skills to community participants and uses the arts for therapy, engaging all ages in the community through Street Theatre Productions combating Personal and Social issues. Works as a Performing Arts Specialist at Sistren Theatre Collective. Have also worked and performed with Area Youth Foundation using the Performing Arts as a tool for bridging the gap and level ground between people living within communities. Also have performed with Jamaican Folk Singers healing the community through folk songs.
NATALIE JOHNSON
born in jamaica in 1979, natalie johnson was whisked away at the age of 9 months to the fiji islands. from there she travelled and lived all over the world, criss-crossing between east africa, north america, europe, central america and the caribbean. she is a talented, intuitive individual that is well spoken, analytical and has strong written skills and developing language skills in french and spanish. she is lively, compassionate and intelligent and is an asset to any team she is placed in.
